Patent Safety Turning Gear for Carriages
This invention has been patented by Messrs J. Belk and A. Parr, coachbuilders of Feilding. The patent consists of two steel bars and turntables which connect both of the axles, compelling the hind wheels to track those in front when rounding any curve, aud thus all strains or friction to the body of the vehicle are avoided. It can be seen at once that it will be almost impossible to overturn a carriage provided with wheels on this patent. Another advantage is that ladies may take their places in the second seat, without contact with the hind wheels, because the latter can be moved to such a position as to allow the ladies to mount without their apparel coming in contact with the tires, as is the case at present with ordinary four wheeled vehicles. The invention may be applied to second hand carriages at very little extra cost. Application has been made for letters patent in the Australian Colonies and America. The invention is a valuable one, and should prove remunerative to the patentees, Messrs Belk and Parr. •
