Stock Market
♦ LOWES & IORN'S STOCK REPORT'Our last Wednesday's sale was the largest of the season, there being a full entry of both sheep and cattle with several consignments of horses. Prices of sheep were fully maintained but there was a. slight downward tendency m cattle noticeable principally in 3 and 4 yr olds. The draught horses from Canterbury were as usual a useful lot and realised fair prices. Some doubts were expressed that the tone of the sale would weaken owing to the unprecedented number of stock to be offered, but all such doubts were dissipated as the sale progresed with increased firmness until all stock was cleared, with the exception of two small pens of bullocks and a few rams. Wm. Trimble reports Laying held a stock sale at the Cheltenham sale yards on Saturday last, when a large lot of sheepwere offered for sale, all of which were quitted at considerably over the reserves. A line of wethers brought 10s ; ewes, 10sGd ; and lambs, 7s 3d.
