Feilding Assessment Court

This Court was held at Feilding on Friday, the 26th instant, before His Worship, Mr W. H. Brabant. Mr Prior appeared for the Feilding Borough Council, and the following cases were dealt with :— A. Hubner objected to valuation of section 157 ; reduced from £10 to £5. D. H. Macarthur objected to valuation of sections 264, 291, 178, 122, 125, and 126, on the ground of excessive valuation. Mr Macarthur examined the valuer (Mr Hill) in relation to the relative value of section 264, which is a vacant one in Manchester street, as compared with the value of the section on which Cobbe and Darragh's store i 3 built. Whilst in the box Mr Macarthur stated thafc the land a little higher up the street had been sold at SOs per loot ; he quoted this for the purpose of showing the decrease in the value of land immediately on leaving the corner sections. He thought the value of the section at the present time was £7 per foot. After further evidence and examination judgment was giyen. Valuation was sustained in regard to sections 264, 291, 122 ; 178 (suburban) reduced from £85 to £10. D. H. Macarthur, as agent for Lord Denbigh, objected fco valuation of sections 246 and 247, Feilding on the ground of excessive valuation. Mr Macarthur stated he would withdraw the objection as he had no evidence to produce, and His Worship had ruled that where it was only a matter of opinion he must take the valuator's estimate when he showed reasonable grounds for that estimate. D. H. Macarthur, as agent for the Duke of Manchester, objected to the valuation of sections 113 to 118, and 129 to 131 (suburban) ; objection withdrawn. D. H. Macarthur, as agent for the Colonists' Land and Loan Corporation, objected to the valuation of sections 272, 276, 278, to 286 (total value £325), on the ground of excessive valuation. Reductions were made on the following sections : —278, 279, 280, 281, 2, 3, 4, and 5, to £273. John Isaac Marshall objected to the valuation of the section occupied by him, which valuation he considered excessive ; reduced from £30 to £28 10s. G. E. Little, as manager for C. Pharazyn, objected to a total valuation of £150. The valuations were sustained in each case.
