Volunteer Items

4 The Manchester Rifles paraded for inspection at the Barracks on Thursday night. Lieutenants Kirton and Bray and a full compliment of non-commissioned officers and men wore present. Sergt.Major Macraillan instructed the men in guard mounting. About twenty officers and men gave in their names to attend the encampment at Nelson. Others promised to make arrangements with their employers to get leave if possible. The trip should be very inexpensive to volunteers as 2s 6d per day for four days will be allowed, and all passages by rail and steamer will be free.
