The Wairarapa Tragedy
(per press association.) Mastebton. February 15. The police yesterday visited the camp of the accused. Harrison and White, and found another shirt with a spot of blood on it belonging to one of the accused. At the inquest, Constable Eoache de» posed to searching accuseds' bunks after arrest, and finding a shirt belonging to Harrison with slight indications of blood upon it, also a packet on the table claimed by Smith, and a large knife under his bed. Other articles were found, but they had no trace of blood on any of them. Tne medical evidence was that neither the knives produced would have made the wounds on the neck unless very great force had been used. They would not have caused death, but the one inside would be quite sufficient. Death resulted from lost of blood, aided by inflammation of the bowels, exposure, aud exhaustion, The wounds might be self-inflicted, but it was very improbable The inquest was adjourned till Thursday morning. Wellington, February 15. Smith and Harrison, arrested on sus picion of murdering John Dalton at Eketehuna, were brought to town tonight, and lodged in gaol to await the adjourned inquest.
