Death of Sir Morell Mackenzie
* (per press association.) London, Febrnary 4. Sir Morell Mackenzie, the eminent physician, died to«dajr of influenza. The death of Sir Morell Mackenzie, which has added another famous name to the influenza casualties, recalls the most extraordinary story in medical annals. Twenty-nine years ago, at the early age of 26, Sir Morell had risen to great distinction in his profession, having in the year 1863 founded the Hospital for Diseases of the Throat in Golden Square. At fifty he had become the leading specialist in that department, lecturer at the London Hospital, writer of numerous standard works, and con esponding member of numerous societies in Europe and America, As the first specialist in Eng« j land he was called in to attend the Crown Prince of Germany, and remained with \ him to the day of his death as Emperor Frederic. In that time he was knighted by the Queen, and received from the Kaiser— it was his first act on coming to the throne— the Order of the Iron Crown, At fifty-five the influenza has carried him off in the midst of an active career, .
