Ashurst Notes

» (FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) A meeting of the committee of the St Patrick's Day Sports was held in the Dramatic Hall on Monday evening when there were present :— Messrs 0. A. W. Hunt (chairman), Bowerbank, Galhchan, Siddells, Bumble, Sanders, Wells, Nelson, Cornford, and the Secretary, MrJ. S, Freeman. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. A letter from Mr Cotter was received accepting the position of President, and enclosing a cheque for £2 2s. MrSatider3 proposed that the amount to be given away in prizes do not exceed £50. An amendment by Mr Oallichan that it should be £55 was lost on the voices. The programme was then drawn out and it will be seen that the eyent of the day, viz., the St Patrick's Handicap, is really worth going for, it being £18 in money and a trophy valued at £2. The other events have also been well provided for and no doubt will draw a good number of competitors. The committee are sparing no pains in getting a good track formed on the Eecreation Reserve. A novel feature in this year's programme has also been added, viz :— A sweepstake of 5b for tilting at the ring which should attract many.
