(per press association.) London, January 14. The Bank of England returns pub» lishec' to day show the total reserve in notes and bullion to be £13,892,000. Tho proportion of reserve to liabilities is 37.52. New Zealand four per cent, inscribed stock, IG2£ , ditto three and a half, 93. New Zealand long- berried wheat, 445, quiet. Canterbury mutton, 4g-d; beef, hindquarters, 4dA thousand bales of New Zealand hemp were sold at following prices : — Good Auckland, £22 ss ; fair Wellington, £20 10. The Antwerp wool sales takes place on the 21st and 22nd instant. Up to date 4000 bales have been catalogued. Of this number 350 bales are Australian wool. January 17. New Zealand 4 per cent, inscribed stock Las risen £ per cent. Tallow, medium mutton, 20s ; beef, 24* 6d. The English wheat market is declining and shows signs of weakness. The Con« tinental and American markets are also declining; Chbistchuech, January 15. The third wool sales for Christchurch look place to-day, there being a fairly good attendance of buyers. Prices as a whole wore as good as last season con* sidering the nature of the wool. Some considered them slightly in advance. There was a greater oemand for merino, which in the main realised the best figures. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company (Limited) have received the following cable, dated January 15, from their London agency :— Tallow. — Market has an upward tendency, but is irregular. Fine mutton tallow is worth 27s 3d per cwt. Good beef tallow is worth 25s 9d per cwt. Frozen Meat. — Mutton market unchanged. Quotations are : Canterbury, 4£d per lb ; Wellington, 3f d per lb. Beef market firm. New ' Zealand beef, forequarters are worth 3£d ; per lb ; hindquarters are worth 4?, d per lb.
