Kiwitea Road Board
The ordinary meeting of the Kiwitea Boad Board was held in the Board's office on Saturday, the 16th inst. Piessent — Messrs Lucas (chairman), WilliamBon, Haythorne, Hprner, Reid, and Shannon. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. From J. Palmer, stating that through inadvertence he had cleared 7 chains oyer the contract length, and asking the Board's favorable consideration in the matter. From Younger and Laing, making an offer to complete No. 3 contract, Kimbolton road, for the sum of 6s 9d per yard, and .signifying their willingness to wait for payment until the Board receive the 10 per cent on the loan; From Lands and Snrvey Office, Wellington, re application for certificate authorising thirds from certain sections being applied in payment of interest on a loan to.be raised, and notifying approval ofthesanie. From same, notifying the Board that the whole of the proposals dated 21st October last, and. 12fch and 18th ultimo, have' been considered and vouchers prepared, with the exception of the Feilding proposals, -which? have to be laid before the Land Board. From same, informing the Board that reserves cannot be vested in the Board for the purpose of .raising revenue without the sanction of both Houses of Parliament.' . ' • From Fred. Cyril Ross. and Alfred H. Boss, re insertion of names on rate roll for section 54, block VII, Hautapu road. From Lands and. Survey Office, Wellington, regretting the delay which had arisen in connection with the Board's proposals' for expenditure of thirds, and stating that the same had been caused through defects in the schedule. From same, re roads to be constructed out of loan and thirds iv the Feilding Special Settlement, the same conld be passed, with the exception of sections 1, 2, and 6, of block VII. From same, enclosing a htho. map of roads laid out in the Board's district as far as they are located on the existing survey maps; also, inyiting supply of local names for the unnamed roads, and correction of names of roads spelt wrongly. ♦ From John Gould, Apiti, requesting a day's wages for clearing a large tree off «4he rotfd on the Birmingham side of the river. (Left in the Engineer's hands). From W; S. Marshall, re previous letters sent to the Board in reference to altering the original contract for the "Whare road, the result being that for the i-40 abvanced"by him no benefit would be derived. . From James Stent, appljing for renewal of slaughter license, and enclosing £1 as payment of the same. From Treasury, requesting thepayment of half-yearly interest on the amount of the Board's debt (£12,526 4s 7d) ; interest, £313 13s. From T. Denton, making: an offer ol £1 10s to cut grass seed on tho Awa road from section 14, to run about a mile, north east. From C. E. Nicholas, Bulls, applying for refund of ' cost of felling seven acres of road line fronting nis section. From W. J.- Tiles, drawing the Board s attontionto the necessity of completing Baylies' Road. Froinß. Byr -■«, applying for renewal of slaughter ■;•:- -.use and enclosing fee of £1. • From R. B. Oldershaw, applying for a daughter license on his section No 184, and enclosing fee of £1. GENERAL. It was resolved that Mr T, Denton's application be replied toby the Secretary. Proposed by Mr Shannon, seconded by Mr Haythorne, ;That Mr Lucas be empowered to sign cheques in the absence of Mr Taylor.— Carried. Proposed by Mr Beid, seconded by Mr Shannon, That the Board cannot do any more work on the Whare road at present, there being no funds available and a largo portion of the rates are still outstanding. — Carried. . Proposed by Mr Haythorne, seconded by Mr Williamson, That the slaughter license fee for the ensuing year be fixed at £1. — Carried. Proposed by Mr Homer, seconded by Mr Haythorne, That renewal of slaughtering licenses be granted to Mr J. K. Simpson, Birmingham, R. B. Oldershaw, B. Burns, and J. Stent.— Carried. Proposed by Mr Shannon, seconded by Mr Haythorae, That the arrangements made by Messrs Lucas and Homer for an overdraft of £1,000 with the Bank of Australasia, be confirmed. — Carried. Proposed by. Mr Beid, seconded by Mr Homer, Tfiat the names of Fred & Ross and Alfred H, Boss be placed on the roll as occupiers of section 54, block 7, Ongo. — Carried. Proposed by Mr Lucas, seconded by Mr Williamson, That a list of defaulting ratepayers be drawn up, and 50 names be drawn by a committee, to be sued at the next sitting of the B.M. Court at Feilding.— Carried. A letter from Mr L. Holden was receiyed in which he resigned' his seat on the Board for the Buahine Ward as time would not permit his faithfully carrying out the duties involved. Proposed by Mr Haythorne, seconded by Mr Homer, That this Board accept Mr Holden' s resignation and the clerk be instructed to lake steps to have the yacaucj.filled.— Carried, Proposed by Mr Haythorne, seconded by Mr Hprner, That this Board cannot accept Mr T.Bryce's terms for the purpose of the proposed deviation on Bryce's road, and that Mr Bryce be given three months notice to remove his gates as the Board intends shortly to open the road, as originally surveyed, for horse traffic. — Carried; Proposed by Mr Homer, seconded by Mr Haythorne, That tenders be called by the next meeting for the necessary work beyond the Cliff road, on the Oroua Valley road, to be paid for out of thirds now approved of by the Land Board. — Carried, Proposed by Mr Shannon, seconded by Mr Homer, That tenders be called for works in the Ongo Ward according to plans submitted to and of by the Commissioner of Crown Lands. — Carried. Proposed by Mr Homer, seconded by Mr Haythorne, That the tenders of Doherty for the Kiwitea Cross Road at 14s 6d per chain be accepted, Shapeleski and Gearke for the metalling of the Kimbolton road at 25s 6d per chain. The monthly accounts were passed for payment and the meeting adjourned.
