(PER UNITED PItUSS ASSOCIATION.) London, January 13. A serious fire has occurred at Watson's Soap Works Leeds, which are situated beneath the railway* The damage is estimated at £300,000. The fire caused ' considerable injury to the Midland Hail way Station and the permanent way of the North Western line. An immense fire is raging at Seth Taylor's flourraills in Tooley street. Five blocks and eight floors have already been destroyedAn Anarchist has been arrested at Soho, in London, on the charge of being concerned in the Walsall nffair. The police have apprehended another person in connection with the discovery of bombs at Walsall. Two Jews have been arrested at AX trincham, in Cheshire, for having some Anarchist papers in their possession. A locomotive exploded in some steel works in Merthyr Tydvill, South Wales, resulting in the death of seven workmen. Nelson Bros, have declared a dividend of 10 per cent, and carried forward £16,000. In the discussion on Professor Stuart's paper Sir Crichton Browne said he regretted the expansion of colonial uni« versities, as it would lend to lessen the number of colonial students at Oxford and Cambridge Universities. January 14. Mr W. Lidderdale, governor of the Bank of England, states that it is unlikely that Baring's estate will make a claim on the guarantors. Sir A. Borthwick, M.P. for Kensington South, is preparing a Bill which he proposes to introduce in the House of Commons providing for extending the franchise to women. Washington, January 13. The Committee of Congress recommends the spending of £2,000,000 annually for ten years in fortifying the seaports of the United States. Pabis, January 14. The manager and actresses at the Realism Theatre in the city have been convicted of taking part in a grossly ' immoral play, and have been sentenced to various terms of imprisonment. The official announcement of the French census gives an increase of 124,000. Beblin, January 14 Intelligence has been received that the German forces in East Africa have been defeated by the natives. Aden, January 13. An endeavour is being mnde to mediate in the Yemen difficulty, and in the meantime fighting has been deferred. St. Petersbubg, January 14. Russia, it is stated, does not require fresh taxation on the new loan. Caibo, January 13. The French fleet will not take part in the demonstration which is to be held to welcome the new Khedive on his arrival; Ottawa, January 14. The Hon Wiltred Laurier declares that further disclosures of corruption in Canada will shortly be made. Valpabaiso, January 13. The relations between Chili and the United States are improving.
