(PEE UNITED PBEBS ASSOCIATION). Dunedin, January 14. Alex. McDonald, one of the crew of the Manapouri, fell overboard as the steamer was going down the harbour this afternoon, and was drowned. The body has not been recovered. . Alfred Selby, a lad of 14, was drowned this morning in a lagoon at Lumsden, and Jonathan E. Richardson, a child, was found drowned at Catlins River yeaterday afternoon. Auckland, January 14. A boy of 9 years, George Lipsey, while boating in the Waihau River, Te Aroha, fell into the water and was drowned. N-apieb, January 15. The Caledonian Sports to-day were a great success, over 4000 people being present. The Open Mile Race was won by K Bayne,in4nun33sec.,from scratch. Bayne also won the Three Mile Race, in 15m in 4,9 tec. Hemptpn won the 100 Yards, from scratch, in 9 4»sthsec The time was very carefully taken by three experienced timekeepers. Wellington, This Day. The annual valuation ot the City only shows an increase of £4092.
