Trieste, the sister to the sensational Titan, has given further proof of her excellence by winning the Carrington Stakes at the Sydney Tatfcersall's meeting on January 1, putting up considerably more than her weight-for-age, and cutting out the six furlongs in the fastest time on record for the race. The great American jumping horse Filemaker is usually ridden by a lady, Madame Marantelle. It was she who was on his back on November 21 last at Chicago when the world's high jump record of 7ft B£in, held by Elmira, was equalled by this horse. Filemaker failed several times before getting over the bar, and when he did succeed he dashed at the jump at full speed. On November 27, and with only one day's racing to complete the flat racing season, at Home Mornington Cannon was leading G-. Barrett by five in the race for the jockey premiership, and the ultimate result could not be aftected, so that the popular young Danebury horseman comes out in the proud position as the most successful jockey of 1891.
