Ashurst Notes

A meeting of those interested in our annual sports on St. Patrick's day was held in the Dramatic Hall, on Friday. Mr Ingrain was yoted to the chair. The minutes of the last meeting of last season were read and confirmed and balance - Bheet passed, showing i' 6 11s. in hand. Mr Gc. J. Bumble proposed and Mr Nelson seconded that the sports be held as formerly on St. Patrick's Day, March 17, and that a committee of eleven be nominated, when Messrs Bumble, C. Hunt, E. Sanders, "W. Bowerbank, D. Gonchie, £. Qallacher, J. S. Freeman, A. Grammer, T. AVells, C. Liddells were elected. Mr J. Cotter was jpropbsed as president, and Mr W. T. Ward as vice-president. The general meeting then closed and a committee, meeting was held. Mr G. Hunt was elected chairman for the year, Mr Bumble treasurer, and Mr J. S. Freeman secretary, with a payment" of £1 10s for the season. The question of sports' ground then came on for discussion. Mr Sanders thought that it would be better this year to write to the Bacing Club as to the terms on which they would allow the sports committee the use of their ground ; at the same time a committee was appointed to inspect our newly granted recreation reserve, and report at the nest meeting the probable cost of bringing it into order for a track. Messrs Wells, Siddells, and Nelson are to estimate this. It was decided to advertise in the Manawatu Daily Times, Manawatu Standard, Fbilding Stab, and Wanganui Herald and 'Yeoman if suitable terms could be arranged. Mr Galiacher proposed that an -account be opened at the Aahurst branch of the Colonial Bank, which is to be done. It was resolved that the day's sport conclude with a concert and dance, to be held in the Dramatic Hall, the Secretary to get out subscription lists at onoe.
