She reports several gales having been experienced, which have done -considerable damage to the low-lying Islands. While at Tokolau, or Union Group, the captain of the Archer heard that six Samoan chiefs, followers' of Mataafa, who are exiled there, complained of the bad treatment tO v which they are' : 3ubjec'tedrahd declared they would prefer hanging to the present life they are leading. December 30.; An immense amount of property has been destroyed by. bush fires in Naran>» dera district, about 350 miles inland. One fire swept everything before it for thirty miles. One death, is reported. MejCboubne, December 30. . Sixty thousand acres of grass and large areas of standing crops in Hyabram district, 123 miles north of Melbourne, have been burnt by bush fires. Lord Sheffield's team defeated twenty of Ballarat by an innings and 134 runs. Bbisbanb, December. 29. : The Bey.
