Murder and Suicide
Mklbopbne, December 15. A shocking .tragedy. Has been enacted at Forbes, where Joseph Aherne shot himself and his sweetheart, Annie WiU hams, a domestic servant. ' Both are residents of Waloloo. Since .coining* to Forbes Miss William* resisted Aherne's advances. On Saturday Aherne bought a wedding ring and a bulldog revolver. He watched the girl all day, and at night she went for a walk with a young man named Simpson, and he followed her. Lamoon, Aherne accosted Simpson Near asking him what he was doing witii his wife. Miss Williams;. demei that Aherne haJ any right to term her his wife, whereupon the latter ' drew the revolver and shot hs't through the hand- The girl called him a coward, and was stooping down, to, pick up ,&"stone when Aherno aguin fircd^ the 1 bullet entering the girl's side just above the hip. Aherne ran a few paces, and then turning the revolver upon himself, fired two shots into his right breost, killing himself instantly. The girl lingered for a daj. Aherne, left, a touching letter to his mother, in which he stated that he contemplated suicide. — Post's Cor res-, pondent.
