LPSfi UNITED PBEBS ASSOCIATION. J Sydney, December 22. Mr Harris, a millionaire, was run over and killed on the railway at Parramatta to-day. The Bhip lolanthc, from Brisbane to Newcastle, is missing. She is now 81 days out. In the House to-night Mr Reid, leader of the Opposition, raised a technical point, contending that as the question of the imposition of duties had been dealt with and negatived earlier in the session, resolutions on the financial statement were out of order. The :>peaker ruled that there was a vast difference between the abstract re" solution moved* by the members and a resolution of ways and means. Therefore the present resolutions were in order Newcastle, December 22. The Herald says it is rumoured that a cargo of potatoes by the St Eli Ida, from Wanganui, New Zealand, was discharged into the sea, this step being taken in preference to paying duty on the shipment. Bbisbane, December 23. A number of mounted and fully equipped men are preparing to camp at Ciermont, apparently in readiness for the shearing which begins early in January. It is alleged that many of the men belong to the criminal class. The Colonial Secretary is despatching to the district a reinforcement of police.
