The three blocks allotted to the Pohangina Associations, each containing 11,000 acres, are all joining. The Salisbury block is about 25 miles from Ashurst; the Pjohangina block is to the north of this } and the Onslow to the north of the Pohangina. The Oroua river- passes through the middle of the Pohangina v block. r There was about 34 J members 1 present, but as the names were 1 read out by the Secretary it was found Jfchat these also represented about 20 more. It was resolved that the first 55'hames of the members present, or represented, should take the Pohangina block. The number having been made up a call of 10s each member was made to meet preliminary expenses, and Messrs Lucas, Simpson, B. Bosher/ Eankshear, Hughey, Whibley, C. Wildbore, Richards, Ashworth, Emmett, and Curran, were elected a committee. On the motion, of Mr Lankshear, ( it was resolved that Mr Mountfprt r be requested to give a tracing enclosing this land, and leaving out the portion said to be rugged, and that the same be forwarded to the Minister witha request that the boundaries of the block be granted as therein described. By a subsequent resolutionj'Messrs I Hughey, Whibley, and ,Lucas, were appointed to go to Wellington, and urge the Minister of Lands to grant a ready adjustment of bpuhdanes"as proposed. " J , * ' v Mr Lucas advocated the advisability of all the associations requesting Parliament -to empower each to borrow under the Loans to Eecal Bodies Act, and using the thirds to,, pay the interest for the first 'ls years^ -after which he said the settlers could meet the claims out of the rates^ He also stated that he had -been in,comniunication with the Wanganui Harbor Board, to enquire jon what f terms the. 8809 acres of tb,eir block still remaining unsold, cqu}d be ob.tainedT' *P r settlement by an Association.^" 1 The reply he had received -was thatT with the consent of the Wellington Land Board, the Harbor Board would dispose of the land for- 30s an acre, ten per cent to be paid on allotment, and the balance by equal half -yearly- payment, of one-twentieth of the purchase money until the total had been paid.
