~ « (FEE UNITED PBESS ASSOCIATION). Auckland, December 4. Nicholas Phillips, a gum digger, 67 years of age, residing at Mangakaramea, near Wangarei, shot himself last night in the chest fatally. Edward Baigent, formerly in the employ of the Customs, was founl lying dead on the kitchen floor. He had been drinking badly. Thames, December 5. Mrs Lawless, wife of Thomas Lawless, merchant's clerk died in the Thames Hospital this afternoon. Her dress causjht fire yesterday, and before it could be extinguished she was burnt about the legs, back, aud shoulders.
