The Band Contest
(per press association). Dunkdin, Noyember 30. The band contest, under the auspices of the Brass Band Association, concluded at ten o'clock to-night, and about twenty minutes later the judge, Mr Talhs Trimnell, Mus. Bac, Oxon. announced the result. The bnnd tonight played their own selections. The order had been arranged by ballot. On comparing the letters placed bj- Mr Trimuell, it was found that the order was as follows — Oamnvu Garrison, 1 ; Dunedin Garrison, 2 ; Christchurch Garrison, 3 : Invercargill Garrison, 4. Mr Trimnell stated that in his opinion brass and reed bands should not compete against each other. The playing nt the conrcst was equal to that of any kind of contest in England lie had judged, nnd he thought it a great credit to the colony. At a meeting of delegates of the Band Association it was decided that the Executive should recommend the affiliated bands to ndopt the slide trombones in Future contr-sts.
