The School Committee, realising the hardship which is inflicted on parents by frequent changes in school books, has resolved to request the Education Board to import bcoks, and retail the same to committees at cost price. Wellington, November 20. The officer to whom the position of Commandant of the N.Z. Forces offered is really Captain Francis Fox, not Parkes which is a mutilation of the cable message. -There is much enquiry as to wbo the gentleman mentioned for Ihe Governor* ship can be. There is a Commander Maxwell in the navy list, he is known to be a man of good connections, but it is scarcely possible the choice would fall on him. If the name is correct it is most likely Sir Herbert Eustace Maxwell who is mcanf, Ho is Junior Lord of the Treasury, and according to report, a man of some note. Woodville, November 20. The Main School closed to-day for six weeks, owing to the influenza having re* dnced the attendance from 220 to 158. The school will reopen again in January. Auckland, November 19. At Eemuera od Thursday, dairy cattle were required, the prices ranging from £4 to £6 for those at their profit. Store cattle were in full numbers and kept their values, particularly fresh conditioned cows. Calves, in usual numbers, Were at late values. Fat cattle were in average numbers, 230 being yarded, but were lower in price, especially light* weight cows. Oxen were at 16s to 17s, and cows 12s to 14s, the lOOlbs. Sheep were in average numbers, 832 coming forward, but were lower in price about Is each,
