One mile and a quarter. ' — Strathmore, 1 ; Sainfoin, 2 ; Tiraillerie, 3. Won easily by four lengths. Time, 2min 9£secs. Flemington Stakes, a handicap sweepstakes of 5 sovs each, 1 ft, with 400 soys added. Half a mile. — Urith, 1 ; Happy Jack, 2 ; The Captain, 3. Time, 52sec. The V.E.C. Handicap, a sweepstake of 10 soys each, with 500 sovs added. One mile and three quarters. — Portsea, 1 ; Sir William, 2 ; Chintz, 3. Time, 3min 4Jseo, The Steeplechase, a handicap sweepstake 800 sovs. About 3 miles. — Marmion, 1 ; Messenger, 2 ; Dolphin, 8. Time, 6min 43|sec. & Canterbury Plate, of 10 sovs each, with 500 added. Two miles. — Steadfast, 1 ; Sadim, 2 ; Marvel, 3. Time, 4min. November 8. On returning to scale yesterday afternoon at the finish of the Canterbury Plate, Harris entered a charge against Moore of foul riding, but, after enquiry, the Stewards dismissed it, ordering Harris to appear berore them at 3 o'clock on Tuesday afternoon to explain his own peculiar riding of Marvel. Some of Harris 1 displays during the meeting, notably on Correze in the Melbourne Cup, are considered to be most unsatisfactory.
Christchubch, November 9. The Metropolitan Meeting of the Canterbury Jockey Club was held at Biccarton to-day, as follows : — Spring Hurdle Bace.— Norton, 1; Freeman, 2; Couranto, 8. Christmas, and Lyndoora, also ran. Time, 3min 56sec. Dividend, £3 16s. Maiden Stakes. — Morpheus, 1 ; Prestige, 2 ; Ilium, 3. Time, lmin 43$ sec. Dividend, £5 Os 6d. New. Zealand Cup, a handicap sweepstake of 20 sovs each, with 1000 sovs added. Two miles,-^-British Lion, 1; Thame, 2; Bosefeldt, 3. Crackshot, Cruchfield, Cynisca, Dilemma, and Plinders, also ran. The lot soon got into line as they ran towards the stand Crackshot came through, and took command before reaching the rails. Before reaching $he Kennels, British Lion got on terms with the leaders, and was level with Cruchfield and Crapkshot, as they passed the sis furlong post, At the distance Cynisoa made a good run, but died away, and British Lion coming on in front, won fairly comtortably by a length from Thame, who was a length and a half in front of Eosefeldt. Cruchfield was fourth, Cynisca, fifth, Crackshot, sixth, Dilemma seventh) and Flinders pulling up last. Time, 3,baiq 3,4£sec, Dividend, £15 Is. Eiccarton Welter Handicap. — Adieu, 1 ; Pairchild, 2 ; Jacob Faithful, 3. Time, lmin 18sec.i Dividend, £18 11s. The Welcome Stakes— Stepnick, 1 ; Wakawatea, 2; Vogengang, 3. Time, 50sec. Dividend, £4 2s 6d. Steward's Stakes Handicap. — Clanranald, 1 ; Carronade, 2 ; Begina, 3. Time, lmin 17sec. Dividend, £15 6a 6d. The total amount put through the machine was £12,933.
