Fire at Palmerston
— T— * W ■ Shortly -after £ o'clock yesterday morning^ the : Grandstand' an the A. and P. Association grounds was seen to be in- flames. -The 'firebell jrang out an alarm, and > the Brigade were quickly on th 3 spot. As there was no water available the Brigade allowed the fire to >burn itself out, mereiy confining themselves to watching the roofs of houses- in- the immediate vicinity. The origin of the fire is a mystery. If it is not the act of an incendiary, it must have-t^ been caused by some swagger vrho had taken up iris abode there, and used matches for lighting his pipe, or something of that sort. There was a quantity of football clothing belonging to the members of the Football Club, and a number -of pairs of running shoes, the property of athletes, in the stand. The building, which coat £75, was insured for £50 in the Colonial office. ' A meeting of the Committee of the A. & P. Association was held ye«terday mornins: for the purpose of con- •- sidering the question erecting a new Grandstand m time for the Show.
