Suicide in Wellington

■■ ♦ I PER UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION. ) Wellington, October 30. A sensation was caused in town this afternoon when the news was circulated that Miss Mabel Hawkins, the youngest daughter of Mr R. S. Hawkins, solicitor, had been found dead in the Botanical Gardens with a bullet wound in her head. The body was found near the Terrace entrance to the Gardens, with a terrible wound over the left eye, the bullet having passed out by the ear. A six-chamber revolver, of which two chambers had been discharged, was found beside her, and on her breast was pinned a note, aßking that the news of her death should be broken gently to her mother. Miss Hawkins was 19 years of age, and had lately been attended for nervous depression, and was about to take a trip for change of air and scenery. She left home about 10.30 thismoriung, apparently in her usual spirits. Her parents, who naturally are prostrated by the shock, are unable to give any reason for the rash act, and are at a loss to account for the possession of the reyolver, which has the appearance of being quito new. An iu r quest will be held to-morrow. This Day. At the inquest on the girl Hawkins the 'father of the 'deceased said ho could not account fpr the rash act, The verdict was " Deceased shot herself while in testate of hysteria, she not being responsible for her actions.
