ENGLISH AS SHE IS SPOKE.
TO THE EDITOIt OF THE STAIt. Sir., — Entering three places of business on Saturday, to mako purchases, 1 was grieved and surprised, in this land of free education, to be greeted by three smart looking stand - up - collar - long - tail - coat young men with " We aint got none," " Wo keeps only one sort" "That there 'at Quits ypu." Such indifference to the rudiments of learning is a disgraco to young fellows who clearly aim at polish from the style they assume. It can only arise from downright laziness, or consummate egotism, probably the latter, as unfortunately it is frequently from such as these that we haye to endure lay sermons. This lamentable phrase of ignorance I commend to the particular notice of the newly formed Mutual Improvement Societv, which, by the way, is not always regarded by members as it should be in the light of a society for Self Improvement.
