Correspondence
* FIRE BRIGADE MATTERS. TO THE EDITOR OF THE STAR, Sie, — It is all very well for Cr J. C. Thompson to write about his opposition to the 'application of the Fire Brigade far help as something he " thoughtlessly let drop at the last meeting of the Council," and to wish your readers to infer that what he said " was a rnere joke, and meant nothing taore." Is this what Councillors are elected for, to discuss matters of public interest " thoughtlessly " and in "joke"? Besides, how are the readers pf your reports of the meeting to know when a Councillor is iu earnest or jest in any remarks" he makes at the Council ? Why does not Cr J. C. Thompson have the courage of his opinions, if he has any, and stick to his arguments, instead of trying to shuffle out of them ? As Cr J. C. Thompson quotes from " the good Old Book," I would remind him of what it says in Prov. XXIX. 20. If he will read the passage for himself I think he will find another •< rebuke that is better than secret love." — I am, &c, Fireman.
