" Dear Sir, — " We, the undersigned members of the Committee of the Feilding Jockey Club for the past year, desire, on your resignation as Secretary, that you will accept our cordial expressions of approval of the diligent and able manner in which you performed the duties of your office since you undertook them. " It is not our province to recapitulate all you have done for the Club, but we would especially thank you on our own behalf, and that of the other members, for the valuable assistance you rendered in the acquisition of the land for the present Racecourse, the erection of the Grand Stand and other buildings, and the number of names added to the roll of members throngh your influence. " Your iavariable courtesy and attention to owners of horses, jockeys, and the public, ha«re, in our opinion, largely assisted to raise the club to the high position it now occupies. " We are, " Your Obedient Servants, " Feank Y. Lethbridge, " President. "D. H. Macartuur, " Vice- President. " Walter Bailey, " Hugh L, Shehwill, " E. J. Allen, " J. Wilson, 11 Geo. Kirton, " W. G. ♦' Fergusson Street, Feilding, September 22nd, 1891. "To the President, Vice - President and the late Members of the Committee of the Feilding Jockey Club. " Gentlemen, — " The receipt of your letter of the 3rd instant has afforded me sincere pleasure, and I beg to thank you most heartily for the kind manner in which you have been pleased to express your appreciation of my services while Secretary of the Club. " Although I myself feel that I did no more than was my duty as an officer of the Club yet it is none the less gratifying to learn that "whatever I may have done has been so well appreciated. "It was not indeed without a feeling of regret that I was induced to resign my appointment, but still I felt that as my own business was requiring so much of my attention I could no longer, without neglecting the same, continue to serve the Club as faithfully as I could wish ; however, a o since my resignation the members of the club have been pleased to elect me to represent them as a Steward and Oommitteeman I trust that I may still be able to render them useful service. " I am, " Gentlemen, " Obediently Yours, " W. A. Sandilands."
