Fruits. Potatoes, Winds and Earthquakes.

Sonoma County, California, lying n^ar the coast, always gets plenty of . rain when the back countries are i suffering with drought. Our fields, ] orchards, and vineyards aTe flourish- ; ing. Most of the I farms; here are devoted to small fruits, and contain -five, seven, ten;, fourteen or twenty - five acres. These small farms, where tilled, and having a good assortment • of fruit, always bring in a good income ; if peaches fail, as they did last ..year, then apples bring a good price ; English gooseberries do well, at eight cents per pound. Oue-ioutth of an -acre will yield forty dollars worth of j ' berries. Potatoes are ah important ' part of our products ; to see the loads • and loads go by one would think the whole of theJJnited States were to be supplied. Some farmers turn their attention ■exclusively to the poultry business— where it is well understood the returns •are very satisfactory. , One man, Laving a poultry ranch of ten acres, reports a vet gain of six hundred dolJars per year. We have a fine market for everything we raise, being only iifty miles from Sdn Francisco. Now, just to give the picture proper shading, I will add that we have plenty of fog and wind, and occasionally an -an earthquake.— American Agriculturalist. ____________
