The Feilding Star. SATURDAY, SEPT. 19, 1891.
It is our unpleasant duty to again record a fire in the Borough, making the third within a very few days. There was one in Mr Roe's paddock when a stack of straw was destroyed, a second when an old building in West street was burned, and the third at Mr Bartholomew's mill shed in Kimbolton road, yesterday mornmg. We do not believe that one of these fines was the result of accident, there is strong suspicion that the two first were the outcome of deliberate intention, while the third was the act of some careless vagabond who sought temporary refuge in the comfortable quarters afforded by the trusses of hay stored under the old engine shed. It was understood that the night watch man would be able to keep these people out, but it would be such an easy matte* 1 for a man to conceal himself, that it is not surprising, if such a one was actually there, if the nightwatchman failed in discovering him. The work done by the Fire Brigade, aud those who assisted them, cannot be spoken too highly of, and it must be a source of satisfaction for the ratepayers to know that they have so able and efficient body of men to come to their assistance when the services of v Fire Brigade are required.
