Football

There will be a scratch match on the Oval on Saturday, between the Feilding Seniors and Juniors, and Awahuri combined, when the following players will represent the Seniors: — Joe Robinson, Parr, Jack Eobinson, Dyer, Strachan, Matravers, Harmer, R. Whisker, Gregory, Nicholson, Keightley, Oldham, Campbell, Watts and Graham. All of both sides are requested to roll up as it will probably be the last practice before the next match with Palmerston. It is expected that the final match with Palmerston will be played on Saturday week, as the two succeeding Saturdays are engaged for representative matches. The final selection for the team to play against Palmerston will be made on Saturday night. It is stated (says the Manawatu Times) that in consequence of the decision which was arrived at by the Union on Saturday night, the President and vice-President, Messrs L. Abraham and Seeker, intend to withdraw from the Union. If is deplorable that such a state of affairs should exist, and the decision of the Union is still further to be deplored, as by this it is possible for a player to leave a town for any number of months, in this case 12, and then return on the morning of some important match, and immediately become recognised as a bonafide resident of a town. The Manawatu Representative Football team will be considerably weakened owing to the inability of several players to obtain the necessary leave. Messrs C. Nicholson, Peterson, and Speed are the members who are at present unable to get away. '
