Ashurst Notes

J FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] The settlers of Hiwinui are going to get a post office. Mr Goldsbury has drawn out a petition for presentation to the authorities, which is being signed by the settlers. It will be a great convenience to them, for 5 or 6 miles is a long way to go for letters. The only way to get wants supplied is to make them known. There are some good public-spirited settlers in those regions, and they will do it. We are anxiously looking forward to the next Eoad Board meeting to see the result of the tenders for footpaths, and especially those for Stamford street, We trust the work will be proceeded with at once, it seems as if the weather is to be unsettled again, that means more mud and wet boots that children will have to sit in during school hours.
