Pohangina Notes

— * J FROM OUB OWN CORRESPONDENT."] The very excessiye rains we have experienced lately have made the 1 - roads very bad ; worse, in fact, than- they were in midwinter, more especially the roads which are not metalled. But I' observe that such of the roads as are metalled are bad enough, with the ruts fall of water, which has no outlet. This keepsthem soft and makes them still worse. If this water was given a way to escape the roads would dry up' very rapidly with the first wind which was unaccompanied by rain. The metal which was put on the Pohangina road some few Weeks ago, has almost disappeared, and it will be a good job when our Warden comes this way again. He is about due now for a look round, and I am sure it will open his eyes to see the roads in such a bad state. I All around in the orchards I see the ' peach trees out in full blossom, which shows how wonderfully they haye recovered during the last two years. Weasels must be getting numerous in the Harbor 'Board Block, because on Sunday last one was seen lying dead, and a I live one alongside of it, on Mr Durling's section. The living weasel was not in any way timid and could beapproached within a yard or two. Lambing is now taking place in earn- - est, bnt I regret to say that a great number of ewes and lambs are dying, more especially the latter. There is an immense amount of bush felling going on, both on the Harbour Board and Awahou Blocks, and new buildings are going up in all directions.
