PUNISHING NATIVES. | PER UNITED TRESS ASSOCIATION. | Sti»net, August 25. The schooner Vailele, Captain Evers and a crew of six, is believed to haye been lost at the Solomon Islands. A force under the command of Captain Davis, of the H.M.S. Royalist, landed at St Chnstorai, on the Solomon group, in search of the murderers of Captain Craig, . of the schooner Sandfly, who was shot dead by the natives at Makiara in January last. The detachment succeeded in surprising the village where the murderers were hiding, but the latter escaped though the principal chief was captured and held as a hostage. The Royalist also paid a visit to Ugie Island and punished the murderers of Mr Howard, man- ; ager of the Steven's party, of Dunedin, j and others in March last. Intelligence received via Thursday Isi land, states that during a typhoon near ; Hong Kong, the British gunboat Tweed : went ashore and one of the seamen was | drowned. The vessel was subsequently I towed off, but immediately sank.
