Thursday, August 20; The report of the Public Petitions (A to L) Committee on the petition of Lieut-' . enant-Uolonel Humfrey was to the effect that m their opinion the petitioner was' „ not wrongfully retired from office, but his services were dispensed with, on the' ground of retrenchment and economy. He had received .the full compensations, and they could not therefore recommend? that the prayer of the petitioner be granted^ The following Bills were introduced' and read a first time.— Hon Mr Seddon,The Eight from Crown Lands Restriction Bill, The Trafalgar Park Purchasing Bill Mr Duthie, The Thorndon' Esplanade Bill; The Wellington Botanic Garden Testing Bill ; Hon Mr J. McKenzie, The* Tuakitoto and Kaitangata Lakes Act--1890 Amendment Bill. THE IiAW PBAOTTTiaKESS r BILL. The Palmerston North Hospital District' Bill was passed through all its stages. The House went into committee ont this Bill, — Mr ' B. Thompson moyed an amendment, by which 'females would be> competent to enter the profession- of thelaw. — Mr Guinness agreed* with theamendment, because if the Bill was pas--sed m that form it would kill the Bill.— The amendment was agreed to. The Bill- was then reported, and the 1 amendments were agreed to. , ■ '" The Book Purchasers' Protection Bill passed through Committee without amend' ment— a result received with applause.. The House rose at 2.40.
