« The Manchester Rifles will parade for inspection this evening. The Palmerston Volunteers intend to hold a social at an early date. The Manawatu Mounted Rifles will parade for the firet time next Saturday, ■when their arms will be served out to them at the Drill Shed. Orders for 60 sets of gear, comprising bit and birdoons, neck chains, breast-plates and surcingles, have been sent to Messrs Mason and Co., of Birmingham, and until these arrive the troops will parade with ordinary gear. The acting appointment of Lieut C. Bray has been forwarded by the Defence Office, to Captain Pleasants.
