The great sea serpent was sighted by the s.s. Rotomahana on Saturday morning, off Portland Light, on the East Coast. She officer who saw the monster conjectures it was scared up from the bottom of the deep^blue sea, by an earthquake. This Day. Edward Patoky, a bnshman, committed suicide yesterday near Martinborough, by shooting himself. A settlement was arrived at this morning in the Railway case, which practically gives the Manawatu Road Board all they fought for. Dunedin, August 3.
On Friday a lad named Meikle was lost on the Kyeburn Ranges. A search party went out which included the mother of the boy, and two men named Berle and Blanchard. They started on Saturday morning and as they did not return further search parties were organised. A cap which was identified as belonging to one of the young men, was found on a ridge on the "Ranges, and closer search revealed the fact that the three had fallen oyer a cliff, some fifty feet high. The bodies of Alphonso Beer, Eobert Blanchard, and James Maikle, have been discovered. The body of Thomas Meikle, has not yet been discovered.
