Wanganui Education Board
The monthly meeting of the Education Board was held last Monday. Present — Messrs Carson .(Chairman), Sanson, Bridge, Baker, Fry/'Notinan, Beckett, and the Eev J. Boss. Scholarships,— The Board, after fall consideration of the: Inspector's, reports, decided to award the scholarships competed for at the recent examination as follows : — Senior;:; Jeannie. Pairman, Manaia (Girls' College) ; Annie Carson, "Wanganui (Girls' College) ; Mary Kate Sicely, Normanby ; Alexander Hunter, Hawera. Junior : Charles Sharpe, Wanganui Boys' School ; Maurice Spurdle, Wanganui Boys,' and J. Canons, Wanganuißoys. --.> . -■■ , Puwl Teachers' Examinations.— The Inspector presented his report on the resnlts of the recent pupil teachers examinations. „ ;■-, U\ ,;;>;.. , . Mr Sansoif^whd proposed that the number of scholars required to be Jimranteed by the regulations before the J- opening of any: school by the Board should be reduced from 25 to 20. The motion was seconded by Mr -Boss, and after some little discussion, carried. Pbmbeeton. — Permission was asked by the committee to accept a building oftered by Mr- Wood for a school, so that they might obtain the services of Mr Coventry as teacher^ which would not be possible if they were obligsd to wait for^the erection of a special building. The Board decided to accept the proffered building temporarily. . Birmingham:. — A contribution of pound ior pound was asked, for effecting various repairs, including the erection of a partition in,. the schoolground. It was decided that' the Board could not _ contribute anything towards the partitien, and a request for the removal of the closets further from the school building ■was referred to Mr Fry to report upon. Cheltenham and Kimbolton Road, — - It was resolved to separate the districts and to advertise a meeting of householders to elect committees. Awahuri.— It was resoWed that an additional room be erected, and the matter waa referred to the architect and inspector. In the 6rst-class nine were examined, and nine passed; in the second class ; flight were examined and seven passed ;

Tenders are invited bj: the Manchester Road Board for forming and culyerting 33 chains of road, A splendid score war- made at Gerrigong (N-S.W.) recently by a local volunteer named Dayid Sha<pe, who made 69 out of a possible 70 pours ut 500 and 600 yards. At 500 yards he le^istered the possible, and bis third shot at 600 yards was only -half an inch away from the major point.
