UNSPORTSMANLIKE PROPOSAL. TO THE EDTTOR OF THK STAR. Sir, — I see by the Manawatu Times newspaper of the 10th instant, that a meeting of the Manawatu Racing Club had been held the previous evening at Palmerston, at which a resolution was passed that the club should hold a two day's meeting at Christmas. One member suggested that ii the second day's meeting did clash with the .Feilding Club it would only be a question of the survival of the fittest. Now, sir, can anyone conceive that it could be possible to get a body of men together as that which gathered at this meeting and pass, in cool blood, such a deliberately unfair and unsportsmanlike resolution as the one referred to. I certainly think the Feilding club will be wanting in spirit if they do not at once oall a meeting of their club and pass a resolution condemning the mean action of the Manawatu Club, and further, write to the Metropolitan Club pointing out the gross unfairness of the action about to be taken, and request the Club not to give its sanction to the holding of the meeting on the day that has now been used by the Feilding Club for some seasons.. If, sir, this is the spirit in which racing clubs are to be conducted by men calling themselves sportsmen (Heaven save the mark), I should think the sooner our legislators endeavor to legislate for the abolition of racing the better it will be for the community. One can hardly realise, when reading the report of the meeting in the Manawatu Times, that we are living amongst English people, who are proverbial all over the world, for manliness and fair play in connection with all 3ports. — I am, &c, Bkitisheb.
