Feilding Borough Council
*~ , A special meeting of the Feilding Bor-, ough Council was held on Thursday evening to receiye the report of the committed with reference to fencing and improving: Manchester Square. Presenfcr-Crs T. BChamberlain, Rutherford, Goodbehere,. Watts, 8. J. Thompson, j. C. Thompson,, and Gould. Cr T. B. Chamberlain was yoted to the chair. The committee recommended a fencesimilar, to that erected round the new racecourse, viz., with posts having a xoi along the top, let into the posts, the angle of the rail pointing upwards, with three wires between the.- rail and the ground. Cr- J. C. Thompson was about to propose fencing the Square, but'Cr-Goodbe-here objected as he contended that the ' meeting was simply called to hear what " kind of fence was recommended; and not - to decide that the work should be done. \ Cr J. C. Thompson withdrew his motion! % and proponed, which was seconded by Cr Chamberlain, That the four vacant spaces <• in Manchester Square be fenced for planting with" posts and rail and wire as re- ■ commended by ths committee appointed ~* for the purpose, and that tenders be called > for the work! to be in by the nextmettinff - <\ of the Council." s • , Cr Watts opposed the motion. > Cr 8. J. Thompson said- he should not v vote fo* the motion, ag he' thought the - 1 fence would make the Square ridiculous Cr Watfe moved, and Cr Gould sed i ond«d, That one oomer only be fenced. \ at a cost not to exceed j67 10s. - - •*, s Cr Goodbehere maintained ; that the i\ amendment was out of order, as the - \ meeting had not boen called to say whether, part of the square r should be 'fenced ok. ? not.
