Earthquake at Auckland
I PER TJNMTED PBESS ASSOCIATION. ) Auckland, June 24; ' An earthquake occurred just before 11 o'clock to-day. ■ Nearly every building in town vibrated more or less' with the shock, and the oscillation in - some of the larger brick buildings -ia the city seem to have rather alarmed the occupants, who ran out in the streets. " Quite large numbers "of peo- r pie complained of headache, or nausea, after the shock. The shock caused the new Custom house buildings to oscillate rather violently, but the only damage done was a rent ia the ceiling of the building in the j Survey Department. The Curator of: ' the Auckland Museum says the shock is about the most severe yet experienced in Auckland The injuries to the buildings most effected are chiefly confined to falls of plaster at Collins Bros.' establishment, Police Barracks the Newton Savings Bank, Ac. In the New Zealand Insurance Co. 'a Victoria Arcade a large plate glass window of Faravel's, barber, was fractured throughout in various directions. The shock was felt at Otahuhu, where the public schools w-ere dismissed through the shaking of the building;
