Kiwitea Road Board
- The ordinary monthly meeting of this Board was held in the Board's office on Saturday the the* 20th inst. Present — > Messrs Taylor (chairman), W. G. LueaKv~ L. Holden, Eeid, Williamson, Shannon, Mills, Homer, and Haythorhe. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. CORKBSPONDENCB. From Eangitikei County Council Office, giving statement of expenditure incurred at the Onepuhi Bridge from Ist August, 1890, to Ist May, 1891. Showing proportion owing by Kiwitea Eoad Board was £4B 14s 7d, for which ■ a cheque was requested. From C. and F. Gagern, asking for written information why the Main Cross ' road was not made in section No. 10, Block 12, as well as other roads in the Block. From F. Dinddale, Devonport, Auckland, requesting information re rates of his section No- 30, Kiwitea road. From F. W. -Welford, W. Wilkinson, and others, requesting thirds to" be spent in making a track paßt their sections in West Waitapu Block. From R. Holley, re change of name on rate roll from self to Thomas Roberts. From F. W. -Welford, requesting hid name to be put on rate roll. 'From James Meehan, applying for leaVe to fell road-line by hiß section. ' From F. Newman, drawing attention' , to the road to his section which is now impassable, and offering, l to' adyance half the amount necessary' to make the same. From Henry Franklin, asking leave to fall bush along hie section in the Ongo ward. From J. Laraen, requesting that road' > line be felled opposite sections 45, and 46, Block XVI. From Edgar Swain,. Btating that the > rates applied for should be charged to Mr Bredin, of Marton. From E. W. Hackett, rfr deviation in laying out the Whare road. From F.W. Welford, asking permission to fall road line fronting his section* From Eobert A. B. MoKenzie,-requeßt« ing that a road be formed into the Pohangina. Block as soon as possible/ From F. Eichards, D. McKenzie,' and others, requesting then: thirds be expended in opening up the Pohangina road. &om Suryey Office, Wellington, for* warding tracing of Pukerimuroad. - From Alex. Fergusson, calling attention to the removal of his fence by Mr McKenzie, contractor. ' / From E. W. Hopkins, retracting offer of loan of his dray free of cost, ana stating if the water is not stopped from flowing into his land in fourteen days, he will take proceedings > against the Board. From H. Jones, notifying his purchase of Mr J. Eobert's share in section' 55, Block XIII. From C. L. Pemberton, enclosing account for felling bush on Whare road. From Land Office, Wellington, re proposed diversion of thirds. From F. Gagern, asking permission to make a .track from section No. 7 to No* 10, Block XIII, Apiti. From Survey Office, Wellington, acknowledging, receipt of resolution passed by the Board, re borrowing powers of local bodies. - From 'Bank of New Zealand, Wellington, re felling road-line on northbound, ary of sections No. 6 and 7, Block VIII, Ongo (Otamakapu-Pakihikura Block.) - From Jas. Reginald Sommeryille, re block of land known as the Otama Kapua Block, felling bush and' other matters pertaining the same. From E. Pask, agreeing to bear half the expense of laying 800 loads of metal on the Pohangiaa road. * From District Laiid Office, Wellington, re falling bush on road-lines, &c. From W. W. Corpe, calling attention to the state' of Pohangina road. 'He was prepared to pay for 100" yards of metal and Messrs Gardiner Bros: for 50 yards more; GENERAL. Mr Crouch here waited on the Boardaccompanied by Dr Cbarltoh— to apply for charitable aid. He was living in the Kiwitea, and was unable to do any work, owing to his being subject to epileptic fits. Dr Charlfcon verified his" statement " as to Crouch's inability to do. any. work. , Mr Crouch said he left England for the colony last August, but had been living in Kiwitea during a previous - residence in the colony, he expected money, from Home, which was supplied from "trust funds, but he could not say when- it would arrive, he had only had illO since he came back again. The Chairman asked how he. came to be sent out here, to a wild country, when in the condition which he stated He was. Mr Crouch said that when he left Home the first time he was entitled to reoeive £1 per week and he could not account for its non-arrival. • The following^, resolution was ihen I passed^ • ' ■ Proposed by Mr Haythorne, seconded by Mr Taylor, That the sum of ten shillings per week be granted as charitable aid .to W. Crouch during the pleasure of the Board*— Carried. - • : - • Mr J. A. McDonald waited on the Board in reference to a road being made to his ' section in the Apiti block. He stated that if the Engineer was instructed to lay it off, he and others would supply the funds until the Board was in a position to bear the expense. This matter was left in- the hands of Messrs Shannon and Homer to complete. Proposed by Mr Shannon, seconded by Mr Williamson, That the following names be placed on the rate roll : J. N. Welford, F. W. Welford, J. W. Shannon, Bichard Taylor and F. Bismarck.— Carried. Proposed by Mr Shannon, seconded by Mr Williamson, That Mr J. H. Taylor and Messrs F. W. Welford and othersbe informed that their petition will be attended to' when the , thirds now due are paid by the Government.— Carried. -- . Proposed by Mr Shannon, -seconded by Mr Haythorne, That Mr W: Welford, j. Larsen and H. Franklin be. informed that they can fell bush on the Board's usual terms.— Carried. - - ' . Proposed by Mr Luoas, seconded by Mr Mills, That the name of Mr Boberts be placed on the roll instead of Holly ; ako, that of Jones instead of Eoberts in sections 55 and 65. — Carried. - > Proposed by Mr Lucas, seconded by Mr Taylor, That the Secretary write to Mr Corpe stating that there are two offers before the Board, one presumed to be from his employees as well as himself, both offering to place the half of 300 yards of metal on the Pohangina road. — Carried. Proposed by'Mr Shannon, seconded by Mr Williamson, That the Secretary "take the necessary steps to have a poll taken in the Ongo ward for a loan -of £5,000, under the Loans to Looal Bodies Act. Carried. Proposed by Mr Homer, seconded by Mr'Eeid, That permission be given to Mr Fergusson to erect his fence 'on the edge of the road during the pleasure of the Board." — Carried. Proposed by Mr Lucas, seconded by Mr -Eeid, That the Secretary write to Mr <3orpe informing him that the Board will hold him responsible for all damage done '-.' to the main roal, 'or any other road, in the Foxton Small Farm Block, by hauling logs along or across it, and also in- : forming him that the totara on the road - -belongs to ,tbe Board, and that he will be . •expected to. pay £1 for each tree that he has taken, and not to remove any more , the Board's permission. — Car- , iied. . .
