THE MANGAONE SCHOOL.

'/ . . TO THE EDITOR OP THE STAR. Sir, —ln your paper of the 9th instant yon have an- artiole in which the Wanganui Education Board is attacked because of the instructions given, through -the Secretary, that 'our schoolmaster should be compelled to live in the residence -provided for him, instead of his living on his farm, which, is nearly two miles away from his-work. A man cannot be a'farmer, and a schoolmaster combined. When the want of' & house for him was pointed out I, and other settlers, put our hands in our own - pockets, and subscribed pound for pound to put it up, and now I do not see the force of that money being thrown away. If the com-mittee-found the schoolroom not large enough the proper way was to' get the Inspector, who is sure to see whether the children are too crowded or not, to ask the Board to put up another room and the thing would have been done without any fuss and writing to the Wanganui papers about it, and not by a member of the committee, at thai.' Sir, I blame you for finding fault with the Secretary. He, like any other man, has to obey the orders of his superior officer, and if he did not he would soon be got rid of. If he could answer back, you and other editors of papers sometimes write first and find out afterwards, might find out the mistake you make in attacking a man ,who cannot fight you with your own weapons. —l am, &c, , , J. H. ASHWORTH.
