Pohangina Notes

(fbom our own correspondent.) The improvement of this place continues_to move on withrapid strides. /The order of the day continues to be building and., fencing on " both sides of the river. This must soon be a very thriving district, and the establishment of well-managed sawmills, providing, as they do, employment for large numbers of men, has gone a long way to assist in making prosperity. There jis really an enormous amount of traffic on the Valley road, which must ultimately become the main highway between Feilding and this part of the country. ' ■ t Some land here has changed owners at a high figure, while good prices; have been offered and refused for other sections. I. hear that Mr McDonald ? has, been missing again for some two or three days, and nothing has been heard of him as yefc. It must be very trying for his constitution to be lying out, this sort of weather es- ' pecially, in the bush or in a bare paddock. I suppose another search party will have to^ be organised" to find him. It is surmised that he may have gone back to his old retreat in the hollow tree, where he was found on a previous occasion. '" Pheasants are very plentiful and a few quail are about, but pigeons are not io be seen except an odd one here anfl'ttiere trying to find a mate ; hares are 'coming to the front on the river, bed. . From "this I gather that with the addition of trout in the river and, imported and native game on the banks, the Pohangina.will soon be a perfect paradise for sportsmen.The post office was opened on Monday last, and we. already find it a great convenience.
