Hunteryille, at Marton, August 29.

The following ~ paragraph from theStandard, is not likely to encourage good feeling among the respective teams : " The Feilding footballers did not take their defeat on Saturday with-good grace. With the exception of Mr Graham, not one of the players came near the Palmerston team as they were' leaving" for home. Whenever the Feilding team visit Pal- • merston and win they have always gone off with the local club's best wishes, showing that the latter can take a defeat, ' but the fact of the matter is the Feilding players were under the impression that they invincible and were not prepared for the rude shock which they were subjected to on Saturday. As the coach left the stables three hearty cheers were -i giyen for Mr Graham by the Palmerston J footballers, who was, as they put it, the ] only gentleman in the team. As regards J the referee in the match, his decisions .1 -were not always as correct as they might have;been, but apart from that we should advise him, — if ever he is reelected to act in the same capacity again . — not to -argue the point so frequently with the players and spectators, but to watch.the game a little more carefully as on him the visiting team dependfor fair play." We understand that the imagined insult to the yisitors was quite unintentional, in fact the blame should rest on themselves as they Jeft earlier than is usual for a tearn. who : drives in.'.' It is almost impossible for the local team to turn' out withia an hour and a half after a hard game, as only two or three of the players live within a reasonable- distance of the stable where the horses were. No doubt the visitors' long-wished-for victory .was like a new toy, and hurried them away to receive the congratulations of their fellow townsmen. It. is surprising -to see the author of the paragraph in question complaining of the decisions of the referee after- fhe Palmerston team gave him three cheers at the close of the game, but perhaps this' soreness is occasioned by.hi3 having to check the continual wrangling and rough play of certain players. The following players will represent the Feilding Eed Star Football Club in sj their match against the Palmerston Excelsior Club, to be played on Saturday : Full-back,. F. Foster ; three -quarter backs, P, Eoache, T. Corkery, P. Geison ; half-backs, B. Parr, D. McFarlane ; forwards, R._ Newman, J. Minnings, W. .Geison, J: Eosaman, A. Beeohy, W. Smith, H. Coombe, E. Arnott, J. Walton-; Emergency, B. Parkea, A meeting of the committee of the Feilding Football Club was held in Mr Donnelly's oh Monday night.. It was resolved, on -the motion of Mr Whisker, that the charges for admission to cup matches be Is to senior and 6d to iunior matches. A hearty vote of thanks was unanimously accorded Mr Harris for his gratuitous services. Several accounts were passed for payment. There-will be a scratch match on the Oval on Saturday, between the Seniors and All-comers, commencing at 3 o'cloek sharp. As the Feilding seconds will meet Awahuri on the 13th June, a good muster is requested. " '
