FEILDING JUNIORS V. PALMERSTON JUNIORS. The Feilding junior team journeyed toPalnierstou, on Suturday, to compete against the local team for the Junior Cup, and after a hard-fought game in which the viaistors had decidedly the best, they had to go down before Palmerston by two tries (2 points) to nil. The .Falmeiaton men were far heayier I than the visitors, but the former laoked combination, and but for the superiority of their backs, P&irnerston would have had to suffer defeat. Messrs Ohphant and C. Bray umpired for Palmerston and [•'eildiug respectively, whilst Mr FosterPratt was chosen referee. Feilding (blacks) kicked off, and after a few iniuutes play. W. Giesen dribbled the ball splendidly into Polmerston 2o's, and fmm thence over the hue, but Palmerston touched down. Play was kept in neutral territory for a period, till, by bad play on the part of Keilding backs, their goal line was threatened, but by hard p..<rse\ enng of the black forwards, in ■which Lucre, Aitken and Galway did yeoman's seryice for their side, the leather was transferred to the red's 25's, only to be taken back to half way. Not to "be denied the blacks once more had Palmerston on the defensive, haying them penned on their goal line for about five minutes, where a large amount of " barracking " was mdclged in by the spectators present. Palmerston at last got the ball away from their quarters mostly by aid of Nelson, Luxford and Kay (Palmerston), which Galway, Aitken, Collins, Fowler and W. Giesen (Feilding) were most prominent in endeavouring to prevent. The ball was afterwards kept in neutral ground till half time was called The commencement of the second spell saw Palmerston for a time on the defensive, but play was taken shortly afterwards by the red's forwards to Feilding's territory, and a score was prevented by the combination game played by the visi tors' forwards The latter, however, gradually worked the leather to half-way, where Fowler made a good run into the red'? quarters. Feilding here made^ repeated attempts to score, especially Geisen (2) and Lance. The ball was got over the line, bnt Palmerston secured it. From the kick- out the reds played yery determined, and Luxford made several attempts to pass the Feiidmg backs, but was grassed on each occasion by Fanthorpe in excellent style. For off-side play on the part of Burton, the blacks were awarded a free kick in Palmerston 25's, but the ball was stopped by the local forwards, who worked it up the field, and the ball going well to Burton on the wing he dribbled it over the line and scored a try for Palmerston. The kick at goal by Kiwi was a miserable failure. Feilding's men rallied, and took the leather to the red's 25's, where Kay among others relieved his side, and sent the ball well up the field. From a neat pass by Luxford Newth had a clear run and scored a try just by the 25 flag. No increase of points was added by the kick, after which time was called, the local team thus winning as above.
