There is a panic among the Jewish merchants in this city. Many of the Russian Jews remov ing from assigned districts are reported to be dying in indescribable misery. It is reported that 50,000 of those expelled have joined tbe Greek and Lutheran Churches. The synagogues at Moscow and St. Petersburg have been sold. The expulsion and withdrawal of leading Jewish merchants is seriously interfering with the interval commerce of the country.
