Pohangina Notes

-*- (feom oub own correspondent.) This part of the country continues to moye rapidly ahead and new buildings and fences are increasing in number and extent every day. The young grass is not coming on so well as is desirable, but the old pasture affords abundant pasture for the sheep, which, with the cattle, are looking remarkably well. The potato crop has turned out well on the dry land, but where the land was badly drained they have been a comparative failure, and many of them have rotted in the ground. Although the apple crop has not been as plentiful as heretofore, yet what is now being gathered in is very good notwithstanding all the drawbacks we have had. Over the river the men are yery busy at Mr Corpe's mill, from whence large quantities of timber are being sent away daily. The consequence is that what with the sawmill, a general store, and the teams going and coming, things look very lively. One disadvantage is that the heavy wagons on the roads will cut them up for the winter, and the travelling public won't find them as pleasant to get over as Kotlen Row, Hyde Park, or — Manchester street, in your town. However, there is plenty of gravel here, which only wants putting on the roads ; and if they do get bad they will soon be put in good order. Our warden is a useful m amber and we cin sa c y rely on him to peitjct our interests in that respect. Pigeons are scarce, but what there are of them are as fat as butter, as to other game 1 notice the pheasants are looking well and hearty, and will make fine sport tome day.
