April 22 The Boer expedition includes 10,000 Cape Colonists, and represents the Africander band, wbich now distnvbs Rhodes' Imperial schemes. The expedition will cross the Limpopo on the 2:2 nd of June, and the Republic will bo rle clared on the following day. The Republic will be established on the basis of a treaty granted to the Boer farmers ten years ago. London", April 22 General Booth has been left a legacy of seventy thousand pounds by a widow. The Africander band is now said to be disposed to favor Mr Cecil Rhodes suggestion for averting a collision between the Boers expedition and the South Africa company. There is great excitement in the Cape owing to a report that the Marquis of Salisbury will only remonstrate with Portugal for its action in Mashona : land, and the Capetown Times hints that it would be adviseable to lower the British standard in South Africa. ' Valparaiso, April 22. It is reported that the Chilian warship Blanco Encalada while off Antofagasta, was struck by a torpedo and sunk. Lisbon, April 22. ' Intelligence has been received of a serious rising at Bissao, a seaport in Senegambia, where six thousand natives attacked four hundred Portuguese native troops and defeated them. The" casual ties on the Portuguese side were four officers and seventy-one men killed and -twenty-two wounded. Reinforcements are to be sent from here to assist in quelling the rising. St. Johns, April 22. Men-of-war are preventing two hundred fishing crafts in Fortune Bay from sup- ! plying bait to the French fishermen. • ' Hobaet, Tins Day./ The report that .Sir E. C. N.
