New Orleans Lynching Affair
ITALIANS IN AMERICA ORGANISING. (I'HR tfIVITKD PKKSS ASSOCIATION. ) Washington, April 4. The Italians in the United States are organising for the purpose of avenging the New Orleans lynching. -' Clubs numbering '2ooo members are drilling at Mountville. They boast they can command 20,000 men, and are able to capture Pittsburg if they choose. The United States Minister at Rome has communicated with the Italian Government, and on behalf of his Government, promised that reparation will be made for the lynching of the Sicilians, but that time is required to give effect to the determination of the Government. ' Signor Rudini, the Italian Premier, is reported to be satisfied with this decision. ' April 6. r It is felt that owing to the bad character of the men who were lynched at New -Orleans, and v tbe i circumstances '_ which gave rise to the outrage, that" the incident only requires the recognition af a principle of international justioe. Only two of the men concerned were Italian subjects and both of them escaped. New Yobk, April 5 A number of Italians 'resident in Virginia attempted to wreck a train and blew up a depot with dynamite. ' Rome, April 4. Signor Rudini has informed the Secretary of State to the United States that the diplomatic incident will only be closed when the prosecution of the lynchers at New Orleans has begun.
