The Phonograph

' .' ; ' ■ — ' "'■-♦-' '".■ . — .It is scarcely necessary to remind our leaders that the Edison phonograph will be shown i'or the first time in Feilding to-morrow evening at the Assembly Eonms. The programme will contain a phonogram. from Mr Gladstone to Lord €arrmgton, a comic song from Mr J. L. Tooled and a number of sblos on various instruments; The reproductions of all these are said to be simply perfect, so that those who .attend to-morrow evening can "be assured of listening to an absolutely unique eritertainipaeut-; Among the items of the, programme, in addition to those ■already referred to, there may be mentioned the banjo duet, as played by the celebrated Bohee Minstrels, of London ; the clarionet and piano duel; by members of the Tusan's band ; the bautone song " The Warrier Bold," by Mr Bingley Shaw ; the quartette "Banish, Oh Maiden,!", by the Ohristchurch Cathedral ■Choir ; and the chorus "I'he Long White Eobe," by the Jubilee Coloured Concert Co;, of New York. . A recitation by Mr Alfred Dainpier, the celebrated actor, of " The Charge of the Light Brigade," and addi esses by Bishop Julius and Sir George Grey, are certain to be appreciated. These will be included in the «utertaininent to-morrow evening.. Not the least interesting portion of the performance will be the lecture .by Professor Douglas Archibald, M.A.j Oxon., who will fully describe the' working of this most marvellous machine. He .will .also show that the instrument can be made invaluable to business men, editors, and everybody who; desires to preserve a record of spoken words. The phonograph lias had a most successful career during the New Zealand tour under the direction •of Messrs Maomahan, and has drawn -crowded houses m all the places that have been visited, so that it may be that there will be a large attendance of the public at the Assembly Booms io T morro.wrmglit.
