Band Contest
;The;Band' Contest to take place heri on tridiy and ' Saturday next deserve; more'than a mere passing notice. Whei the'first steps were taken by Mr R. 1? tHaybittle it looked somewhat ambitious but the cordial support at once given bj the residents whose assistance was solic ited, more than justified it. The invitationssent out to the various Bands in the colony were accepted .by eight of them, and in all other cases the most warmhearted sympathy and encouragement was freely given. It is well known that our local Band has been making great efforts; by persistent and earnest practice under the conductorship of Mr Haybittle, ■" to take a good position in the contest, ' and we hope that their ambition will be crowned with success. It goes without ■ saying that hearing the other "Bands taking part in the contest, will do them an immense amount of useful service by indicating their own crudities of style, and teaching them how to get rid of them. "We hope, and expect to see the Hall well filled each ;hight, ; and that the' visitors will be entertained with proper hospitality, . -•■■ '-I -■•.> ■;'.■• :■■.}': ..■'-.. : " __■
